What Should I Bring?

Updated: Jul 31

Leaving home isn’t easy, and sometimes it happens suddenly, without time to pack. If you or someone you love is planning to come to our emergency shelter, please know this first: you do not have to bring anything to be welcome here. Your safety is what matters most.

If you do have a chance to gather a few things, here are some items that can help make your stay a little easier:

Important Documents

If possible, bring photo ID for yourself and your children; birth certificates or Social Security cards; any legal papers, like protection orders, custody arrangements, or lease information; and insurance cards or medical paperwork.

Medications

Pack any prescription medications for you or your children, along with dosage instructions if you have them. If you have special medical needs or supplies, please call ahead so we can help accommodate you.

Personal Items

Comfortable clothes for you and your children; pajamas or loungewear; underwear, socks, bras; and basic toiletries such as a toothbrush, toothpaste, deodorant, and a hairbrush. Don’t forget a phone charger if you have one.

For Children

If you’re bringing children, packing a familiar item—like a stuffed animal, small toy, or favorite blanket—can provide comfort during this transition.

If You Can’t Pack—That’s Okay

Many people arrive with very little or nothing at all—and that’s perfectly okay. Our team will make sure you and your family have what you need once you’re here.
