VPC Expands Continuing Education Opportunities for Illinois Professionals
Professionals who work with people will encounter domestic violence, whether they realize it or not.
A client may never identify themselves as a survivor. Domestic violence may not be the reason they sought counseling, social services, healthcare, or other professional support. But understanding the dynamics of abuse can help professionals recognize what may be happening, respond without increasing risk, and connect survivors with resources when they are ready.
That’s why the Violence Prevention Center of Southwestern Illinois is excited to expand our professional training opportunities to include continuing education for licensed professionals.
Continuing Education for Social Workers and Counselors
VPC is an approved Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation Social Work Continuing Education Sponsor, License 159.011776.
Qualifying VPC trainings can provide continuing education hours for Illinois:
Licensed Social Workers (LSW)
Licensed Clinical Social Workers (LCSW)
Licensed Professional Counselors (LPC)
Licensed Clinical Professional Counselors (LCPC)
While VPC’s approval is through the Social Work profession, Illinois also recognizes IDFPR-approved Social Work Continuing Education Sponsors as approved CE providers for LPCs and LCPCs.
For professionals who regularly work alongside individuals and families, domestic violence education can be an important part of continuing professional development. Abuse can affect mental health, housing, finances, employment, parenting, physical health, relationships, and a survivor’s ability to access services. Knowing how to recognize those dynamics matters.
Continuing Education for Beauty Professionals
VPC is also an approved Illinois Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Awareness Education Sponsor, License 290.010239.
Through our one-hour Taking Action training, qualifying Illinois beauty professionals can complete the state-required domestic violence and sexual assault awareness education while learning how to recognize common signs and forms of abuse, understand barriers survivors face, respond safely to disclosures, and connect clients with domestic violence resources.

VPC’s CE-eligible offerings include PurpleOne, our comprehensive four-hour training on recognizing, responding to, and referring survivors of domestic violence, as well as shorter professional trainings designed for specific audiences.
Our goal isn’t simply to help professionals check a box for license renewal. We want continuing education to give people practical knowledge they can carry back into their work and their communities.
Because when more professionals understand domestic violence, more survivors encounter people who know how to respond.
